Tips for Best Signature Results
- Scan or photograph your signature on plain white paper.
- Use good lighting to avoid shadows around the ink.
- Enable "Remove Background" to strip the white paper background.
- Adjust Threshold to capture fine ink strokes without background noise.
What is a Signature Vector?
A signature vector is a mathematical representation of your handwritten signature using paths and curves (SVG or DXF format) rather than pixels. Unlike a scanned JPG, a vector signature scales to any size with no blurring or pixelation — ideal for contracts, letterheads, laser engraving and print.
How to Vectorize a Signature
Upload a clear scan or photo of your signature on a white background. Enable "Remove Background" to remove the paper, adjust the Threshold to capture fine ink strokes, then click Vectorize. Download the resulting SVG for digital use or DXF for physical cutting and engraving.
Best Signature Format for Documents
SVG is the best format for digital documents, email signatures, PDF contracts and web use. It stays sharp at any size and can be embedded directly. For physical stationery and printed letterheads, exporting to a high-resolution PDF from the SVG gives the cleanest print output.
Signature for Laser Engraving
Laser engravers and vinyl cutters require vector paths to operate. The DXF output from this tool is accepted by all major laser platforms including Epilog, Trotec, xTool and Lightburn. Import the DXF and engrave your signature onto wood, metal, glass or acrylic.
Signature for CNC
CNC routers can follow the vector paths of a signature DXF file to mill or engrave your signature into any material. The coordinate system in our DXF output is standard AutoCAD-compatible, ready for use in Fusion 360, VCarve, Aspire and most CNC control software.
Signature for Printing
SVG signatures print at unlimited resolution on any printer. Use the SVG in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, Illustrator or Canva — simply insert the file and resize without quality loss. For offset and commercial printing, the SVG can be converted to a vector PDF with any design application.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best way to capture my signature for vectorization?
Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen. Scan at 300 DPI or photograph with good, even lighting and no shadows. A clean, high-contrast image produces the most accurate vector.
What does the Threshold setting do?
Threshold controls the brightness cutoff between ink and background. Lower values capture only the darkest strokes; higher values include lighter ink areas and thin lines. Adjust it until all strokes are captured without background noise.
How do I remove the white background from my signature?
Enable the "Remove Background" toggle before converting. This processes the image to make the white paper area transparent, leaving only the ink strokes in the SVG output.
Can I use the SVG signature in a Word or PDF document?
Yes. Insert the SVG into Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer or any design tool. It will stay sharp at any size and can be made transparent so the background of your document shows through.
What formats are needed for laser engraving?
Most laser engraving software (Lightburn, Epilog Dashboard, xTool Creative Space) accepts DXF files. Use the DXF download for laser engraving and CNC routing.
Are my signature files stored on your servers?
No. All files are automatically deleted after 30 minutes. Your signatures are never stored permanently or shared with anyone.
